DeMotte Public Library

The library expanded its vision by acquiring the adjacent property to create an engaging natural space for its programs. In collaboration with their architect, we designed a winding crushed granite walking path that meanders through a low-growing meadow of rolling hills. Along the trail, storyboards invite visitors to read a children’s book as they stroll, offering an interactive, educational experience. An expanded clay paver patio, complemented by pergolas and large boulders as traffic barriers, provides a versatile space for outdoor gatherings and community events where there used to be a parking lot. The meadow comes alive throughout the year with seasonal interest from a variety of trees and bulbs, creating a dynamic and colorful landscape with low maintenance costs.
